As camps begin and preseason gets under way, teams and fans will have a chance to see how their off-season transactions have paid off, and there were many. First, the Lakers have now officially become Kobe's team. With Shaq-Fu off to South Beach to work on his tan with the Heat, Kobe must now lead an almost brand-new Laker team, with the loss of Gary Payton, Karl Malone and Rick Fox as well. Also, Tracy McGrady has joined up with Yao Ming in Houston, Steve Francis moving his franchise to Orlando to help jump start the Magic, who also gained Cuttino Mobley and Hedo Turkoglu.

The favorites still have to be the Detroit Pistons, who kept the heart of their roster while adding Antonio McDyess and Derrick Coleman. Big Ben Wallace looks to lead Detroit to another championship by dominating the East as they did last year, but also having the size and speed to contend with the best in the West. And speaking of the West, the team that looks to improve their ways are the Denver Nuggets. To play alongside Carmelo Anthony, Denver signed Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin. However, another team looking to strike gold out west is the Minnesota Timberwolves. You only need two letters to identify the best player in the NBA: KG. Kevin Garnett and company return with pretty much the same team and look to make another deep run in the playoffs. If Sam Cassell can stay healthy and Wally Szczerbiak remains a valuable shooter, this will again be a dangerous team all season long.

Regardless of the outcome of the ALCS, fans in Beantown can look forward to the Celtics taking court with the new addition of Gary Payton to play alongside Paul Pierce. With Raef LaFrentz down low, this could be a team that makes a dent in the East. Indiana is another team looking to make a splash, especially with the threat of losing Reggie Miller at the end of the season. Jermaine O'Neal and Ron Artest will hope to make this a memorable one for Miller, and the talent on their lineup makes them probably the best team to take down the Pistons.
